Vancouver native Saul Berson is a veteran jazz saxophonist whose career spans over four
decades, five acclaimed albums, and international performances across Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa. Celebrated for his warm, playful sound in the bebop tradition of Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley, Berson’s musical range also explores post-bop, trad jazz, and avant-garde styles.
He has performed with such jazz luminaries as Jaki Byard, Steve Grossman, George Lewis, and Barry Guy. Berson leads several ensembles including the Saul Berson Quartet and Asef, a dynamic project merging Middle Eastern motifs with jazz improvisation. In addition to his own groups, he is an in-demand collaborator, performing with Vancouver ensembles like the Ragtime Ramblers, Ard ‘n Saul, and Tzimmes.
Praised for his “burnished saxophone tone” (The Georgia Straight), Berson remains one of
Vancouver’s most versatile and respected jazz voices.
