Born on September 19, 1980, in Silistra, Bulgaria, Ediz Hafızoğlu’s musical journey began at the age of 7 when his father taught him to play the darbuka, and especially at the insistence of his grandfather, he started learning the saz/baglama (a Turkish stringed instrument).

From 1992 onwards, he toured almost the entire country with the “Sakin Tuna Art Group” established in Bulgaria, playing the darbuka in countless concerts and winning awards in competitions. He started playing drums in 1995 with the Kabataş Boys’ High School orchestra.

In 2000, he entered the Industrial Product Design department at Mimar Sinan University.

In 2003, he won a full scholarship to the Jazz Performance department at Istanbul Bilgi University. There, he studied with esteemed teachers such as Ricky Ford, Cengiz Baysal, Donovan Mixon, Can Kozlu, and Selen Gülün. During the same period, he also undertook private studies with Aydın Esen.
