He also works with contemporary music, electro-acoustic music, electronic music, contemporary jazz, big band and artists from different disciplines. He founded different music groups such as Istanbul Jazz Quartet (1985-1990) and Acid-Trippin to perform music of different concepts. He is one of the founders of Istanbul Bilgi University Music Department.
He was born in New York in 1958. Ali Perret, the child of an American father and a Turkish mother, came to Turkey with his family at a young age and grew up in Istanbul. He studied at Istanbul University State Conservatory between 1970-1980. He studied composition with İlhan Usmanbaş and piano with Selman Ada. His interest in jazz music and contemporary music began during his student years. The artist, who started his professional music career in 1972, took part in cabaret theaters and concerts until 1978. He continued his music education at Berklee College of Music between 1980 and 1983. He worked composition lessons from Herb Pomeroy and Ted Pease, arrangement from Greg Hopkins, and piano lessons from Ray Santisi. He graduated from Jazz Composition and Arrangement. He worked as a jazz pianist in various clubs and concerts in the USA until 1985. He returned to Istanbul in 1985. Istanbul Jazz Quartet (1985-1990), Acid-Trippin (1995-2003), Mingus-Trippin (2000), Free'key Trio (2004), Kako;phonia(2004), Schalter Ego, Ali Perret's Nonetonal Quartet (2009) , Barbarians (2010), Ali Perret's DU.DU realized its projects.
In 1997, together with Can Kozlu, he undertook the establishment of Istanbul Bilgi University Music Department. He trained many students at this institution between 1998 and 2003.
He hosted more than 300 musicians for three years at the art venue Pannonica Jaz Club, which he opened in Bodrum in December 2013. After closing the club in 2016, he continued his music studies in Istanbul.
