Trumpeter Miles Davis and saxophonist John Coltrane were outstanding, groundbreaking soloists and bandleaders in jazz history. From 1955 to 1960, Coltrane was a member of the Miles Davis Quintet/Sextet, during which time many classic jazz albums were created, including “Kind of Blue” and “‘Round About Midnight.” In 1960, they went their separate ways, but achieved further success with their respective bands: Miles Davis in a variety of constellations and styles, and John Coltrane primarily with his own famous quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones. Miles and Trane would have celebrated their 100th birthdays in 2026, reason enough to present a special program in honor of these two legends.
The foundation of this project is a collaboration of the renowned Nardis Jazz Club with the Austrian Cultural Forum and the German Goethe Institute to present a weekend of top quality international jazz in Istanbul on March 13/14, 2026. The “Transatlantic Jazz All-Stars” bring acclaimed jazz soloists from the US, Canada, Austria and Germany to Turkey, together they perform original compositions of all the band members in the style and spirit of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
