Modus Jazz Quartet consists of musicians who have served and continue to serve music and music education as academicians with their own unique playing style and composer identity.

In this project, the group performs a repertoire of compositions by music theorist, conductor and bassist Nail Yavuzoğlu, which are blended with the harmonic structure of the period called “New Jazz” and fed with elements of our music culture. Yavuzoğlu is a musician who has written numerous books on Turkish Maqam Music, Jazz Music, Music Theory, Ear Training, Basic Music Education, Piano Education, has been a guest in the homes of people who are devoted to music education, is the arranger and conductor of CRR Jazz Orchestra and Istanbul Jazz Band, a professor at ITU Composition Department and plays electric bass in this project.

Evrim Demirel is a Professor at Istanbul University State Conservatory, Jazz Department. His works in the fields of Opera, Orchestra, Singing and Orchestra, Concerto, Chamber Music, Piano, Jazz Combo have been performed in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, Colombia, Estonia and Turkey. He also won the European Composition Award in 2022. Demirel, who has an excellent piano technique, is one of the leading jazz pianists with an educator aspect in our country.

Çağdaş Oruç has served as a saxophone teacher at Istanbul University State Conservatory for many years. Çağdaş Oruç is a member of the TRT Jazz Orchestra and has performed in many jazz, pop, rock and ethnic music groups including Lawrence (Butch) Morris Orchestra, Monofoniks, Okay Temiz Oriental Wind, Okay Temiz Rhythm Workshop, Ricky Ford Orchestra and Aşkın Arsunan Blueprint Project. His compositions and arrangements, especially of works from his own culture, carry him to a different position besides his high level of performance.

Hakan Kılıçoğlu; After his education at Çukurova University State Conservatory Percussion Instruments Department in Adana, he took part in many concerts as a guest artist with the Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra. After meeting Cengiz Baysal during his high school years, he decided to continue his education in Istanbul and completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Yıldız Technical University, working with important jazz drummers and instructors. Taking part in many festivals as a performer and continuing his jazz projects, Hakan has worked with important musicians such as Nail Yavuzoğlu, Ayşe Tütüncü, Aşkın Arsunan, Can Çankaya, Evrim Demirel, Kağan Yıldız, Barış Doğukan Yazıcı, Anıl Şallıel, Batu Şallıel, Önder Focan, Sabri Tuluğ Tırpan, Kaan Bıyıkoğlu, Enver Muhamedi, Ekin Bilgin, Andreas Metzler in various events. He also continues to perform in “Big Band” projects such as Cemal Reşit Rey Jazz Orchestra and “Istanbul Jazz Ensemble” under the conductor of Nail Yavuzoğlu. Kılıçoğlu, who continues to work with the “Hakan Kılıçoğlu Quartet”, which mainly performs his own compositions, has been teaching drums and “Ensemble” courses as a lecturer at Istanbul University State Conservatory Jazz – Drums Department since 2021.
