Gülşah Erol is an Istanbul-based artist working as a composer, cellist, vocalist, and performer in various styles and genres.
After receiving her education at the Menuhin Music Academy, Zurich Conservatory, Tibor Varga Music Academy, Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory, and Anadolu University State Conservatory, she graduated from Bahçeşehir University Jazz Department.
She developed a passion for avant-garde, jazz, rock and experimental performance, as well as film score composition.
In addition to composing documentary scores, she contributed as a cellist to several award-winning films, including Carousel, which won the Radical People’s Jury Award (2010) and the Golden Tulip Best Music Award (2011).
In 2015, she worked on the music for the film Sarmaşık, which received great acclaim at the Sundance and East End Festivals.
In addition to her film music career, she gave various concerts in Europe with the groups ABSTRA (avant-garde jazz) and Gülşah Erol Band (modern jazz).
Known for her distinctive instrumentalist style, interpretation, and compositions, Gülşah Erol has collaborated with musicians and groups from diverse musical genres in Turkey and Europe, including Nils Petter Molvaer, Peter Brotzmann, Joe Mcphee, Wolter Wierbos, Bart Maris, Jim Black, Selda Bağcan, and Kenan Doğulu. Following her debut studio album “Scar,” Erol released her second album, “Jazz For My Little Cello,” in 2022 through Kenan Doğulu’s record label, Doğulu Music.
