Berkay Ata Quartet

Berkay Ata is currently based in New York. Having begun his studies at Berklee College of Music, he is con-tinuing his education at The New School College of Performing Arts on a full scholarship. His current project features Saim Sarıçalı on piano, Barış Öztürk on double bass, and Deniz Özsan on drums. Berkay and Den-iz have long made music together and shared the stage in various projects. Özsan, who is also pursuing his studies at The New School, plays a pivotal role in shaping the ensemble’s musical approach through his emphasis on rhythm, interaction, and intra-group communication. Pianist Saim Sarıçalı—with whom Berkay has a long-standing musical partnership—is instrumental in defining the group’s character thanks to his ap-proach to harmony, keen ear, and distinctive musical language. Meanwhile, bassist Barış Öztürk, a rising talent on the contemporary jazz scene, serves as a fundamental pillar of the group through his strong sense of accompaniment and musical versatility. The ensemble works on a repertoire comprising both arrange-ments of jazz standards from various eras and original compositions by the band members. Focusing on exploring their own musical directions while preserving the shared language of the jazz tradition, the group places improvisation and collective interaction at the heart of their work.
