Born into a family of musicians, Batu Şallıel began his musical education at the age of nine under the gui-dance of his father, Mümin Şallıel, a jazz saxophonist. He received flute and classical music training from Nevin Apaydın. Entering the professional music world at the age of fifteen, Şallıel has performed in over 50 cities across Turkey and at various international jazz festivals alongside numerous jazz musicians and pop singers. In 2014, after winning the Grand Prix and the prestigious Best Jazz Improvisation Award at the Riga International Jazz Stage Saxophone Competition, he performed at the Fashing Jazz Club in Stockholm and the International Riga Saxophonia Festival. His performance of Aşık Veysel’s “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım” (I’m on a Long, Narrow Road) was included in The Best Of Riga Jazz Album. In 2018, he studied at the Siena Jazz Workshop in Italy with artists such as Miguel Zenon, Ben Wendel, Matt Mitchell, Jen Shyu, Chris Tordi-ni, and Achille Succi. In 2021, he released his first album, “The Way.” In 2024, his EP, “Batu Şallıel and His Orchestra,” was released under the Doğulu Müzik label. From 2019 to 2023, he studied composition, orc-hestration, and arrangement with Tolga Tüzün, Oğuz Usman, Enis Gümüş, and Yiğit Özatalay at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department on a scholarship. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Music and Performing Arts at Yıldız Technical University. She also works as a saxophone and ensemble instructor in the Jazz Department at Istanbul University State Conservatory.
