Piyanoda Ülkem Özsezen, bas ve vokalde Esra Kayıkçı ve davulda Tolga Bedir’den oluşan “The Trio”; müzikte çekirdek grup formatı olan üçlü düzenin sağladığı özgürlük ve etkileşim olanağını kullanarak dinleyiciye tematik ve dramatik etkisi yüksek; yoğun enerjili özgün besteler ve caz standartları sunuyor. Performansları sırasında spontan maceralara da kolaylıkla yelken açabilen grubun Ülkem Özsezen’in besteleri ve caz standartlarından oluşan repertuarı, modern caz triolarının etkilerini yansıtıyor. The Trio’ya bu gece Amerika – Washington’dan saksafoncu Zulfughar Baghirov katılıyor.

“The Trio”
Ülkem Özsezen, 1999 yılında Berklee College of Music‘in Performance bölümüne kabul edildi; piyanist Joanne Brackeen’in Master Class’ında yer aldı. 2000 yılında Berklee’de açılan yarışmada kendi bestesi “Lost in it” ile birinci olarak, Boston Music Expo‘da Berklee College of Music’i plak şirketlerinin önünde temsil etti. Kontrbas sanatçısı Ozan Musluoğlu’nun Coincidence isimli albümünde piyano çaldı ve albümün prodüktörlüğünü yaptı. İstanbul 2010 Avrupa Kültür Başkenti programında yeralan ”Bir Şehir Hikayesi, Konstantiniyye-İstanbul” isimli konser projesinde, Proje Koordinatörü ve Produktör olarak görev yaptı. Proje CD’si Grammy Ballot’da yer aldı. Ghost’s Note ve Milliday isimli, kendi bestelerinden oluşan iki albümü yayınlandı. Hacettepe Ankara Devlet Konservatuarı Caz Bölümü’nde ögretim görevlisi olarak yer almıştır.

Şarkıcı-şarkı yazarı, kontrbasçı ve arkeolog Esra Kayıkçı, 2016’da Angelique Kidjo’nun jüri başkanı olduğu Montrö Caz Vokal Yarışması’nda yarı finalist olarak sahne aldı. 2016’da kendi bestelerinden oluşan ilk albümü Bozgun Hatıra’yı yayımladı. 2017’de Mike Stern, Randy Brecker ve Lenny White’ın jüri üyeliği yaptığı Made in NY Jazz Yarışması’nda solo vokal kategorisinde birinci oldu ve Tribeca Performing Arts Center’da sahne aldı. 2018’de Trakya Üniversitesi Arkeoloji Yüksek Lisans Programından; 2019’da da Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Caz Yüksek Lisans Programından mezun oldu. 2020’de Kelebek Orkide isimli tekli çalışmasını; 2023 Ocak ayında ikinci albümü Seslen Bana’yı yayımladı.

Mimar Sinan Devlet Konservatuarı Keman Bölümü mezunu olan Tolga Bedir, konservatuarda yardımcı enstrüman olarak aldığı piyanoyu 90’ların ortalarından itibaren kendi yazdığı müziklerde ve İstanbul jazz sahnesinde ana enstrüman olarak kullanmayı tercih tercih etti. Jazz ve doğaçlama modern müziğe merakı da o yıllara, özellikle Aydın Esen’in müziği ile tanışıp öğrencisi olduğu zamanlara dayanıyor. Bu dönemde, İmer Demirer ile de uzun süre çalma imkanı bulan Tolga Bedir, 2005 yılında Berklee’ ye kabul edildi ve burada piyano hocası Ray Santisi oldu. Berklee’de davul enstrümanı ile fazla vakit geçirme ve egzersiz yapabilme imkanı bulan müzisyen, Türkiye’ye döndükten sonra Berke Özgümüş’ün de teşvik ve desteğiyle davul enstrümanına yoğunlaştı ve Aydın Esen’in grubunda yer aldı. Müzik prodüksiyonu ve aranjörlük de yapan Bedir şimdilerde özellikle film, kamera ve ışık konularıyla ilgili, kendi Youtube kanalları ile uğraşıyor, bu platform için filmler çekip yayınlıyor.

Featuring Zulfugar Baghirov :
Zulfugar Baghirov Türkiye’de, İstanbul Devlet Konservatuarı’nda Ayhan Yünkuş’un öğrencisi iken jazz müziğine ilgi duydu. İtalya’da Berklee Umbria Jazz Kliniği’ne katıldıktan birsüre sonra Berklee College Of Music’den burs kazanarak Boston’a gitti. Burada Bill Pierce, Jim Odgren, Harry Skoler ve George Garzone’un öğrencisi oldu, Joe Viola Bursu’na layık görüldü. Boston Music Expo’2001’de klarnet-piyano (Ülkem Özsezen ile) ikili olarak, “The Newbury Duo” ile birincilik kazandı. Mezuniyetinden bir süre sonra Washington’a yerleşen Zulfugar, tenor ve soprano saksofon enstrümanlarına geçti. Bakü International Jazz Festival’inde, Montreux Jazz Festvali’nde ve Washington’daki önemli jazz kulüplerinde konserler verdi. 2010 yılında, New York University’s Steinhardt for Jazz Studies Master Programı’na kabul edildi. New York’ta Blue Note; Jazz At Lincoln Center; Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola; NYU Concert Hall gibi mekanlarda performanslar sergiledi. Baghirov, Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA)’da müzik dersleri veren bir yardımcı profesördür ve Silver Spring’deki Montgomery College’da ders vermektedir.

“The Trio”

Ülkem Özsezen was accepted to the Performance department of Berklee College of Music in 1999; He participated in pianist Joanne Brackeen’s Master Class. He won the competition held at Berklee in 2000 with his own composition “Lost in it” and represented Berklee College of Music in front of record companies at the Boston Music Expo. He played piano in double bass player Ozan Musluoğlu’s album Coincidence and produced the album. He served as Project Coordinator and Producer in the concert project named “A City Story, Konstantiniyye-Istanbul”, which was included in the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture program. The project was featured on the CD Grammy Ballot. He has released two albums of his own compositions, Ghost’s Note and Milliday. He worked as a lecturer in the Jazz Department of Hacettepe Ankara State Conservatory.

Singer-songwriter, double bassist and archaeologist Esra Kayıkçı performed as a semi-finalist in the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition in 2016, where Angelique Kidjo was the jury president. She released her first album, Bozgun Hatıra, consisting of her own compositions, in 2016. In 2017, she won first place in the solo vocal category at the Made in NY Jazz Competition, where Mike Stern, Randy Brecker and Lenny White were jury members, and performed at Tribeca Performing Arts Center. from Trakya University Archeology Master’s Program in 2018; she graduated from Bahçeşehir University Jazz Master’s Program in 2019. In 2020, she released her single titled Kelebek Orkide; She released her second album Seslen Bana in January 2023.

Tolga Bedir, a graduate of the Violin Department of Mimar Sinan State Conservatory, preferred to use the piano, which he received as an auxiliary instrument at the conservatory, as the main instrument in the music he wrote and in the Istanbul jazz scene since the mid-90s. His interest in jazz and improvised modern music dates back to those years, especially when he met Aydın Esen’s music and became his student. During this period, Tolga Bedir, who had the opportunity to play with İmer Demirer for a long time, was accepted to Berklee in 2005, where his piano teacher was Ray Santisi. Tolga Bedir had the opportunity to spend a lot of time and exercise with the drum instrument at Berklee, focused on the drum instrument with the encouragement and support of Berke Özgümüş after returning to Turkiye and played in Aydın Esen’s band. Bedir, who also works as a music producer and arranger, is now dealing with his own YouTube channels, especially on film, camera and lighting, and shoots and publishes films for this platform.

Zulfugar Baghirov interested in jazz music while he was a student of Ayhan Yünkuş at the Istanbul State Conservatory in Turkey. After attending Berklee Umbria Jazz Clinic in Italy, he won a scholarship from Berklee College Of Music and went to Boston. He got lessons from Bill Pierce, Jim Odgren, Harry Skoler and George Garzone, and was awarded the Joe Viola Scholarship. They won first place at the Boston Music Expo’2001 as a clarinet-piano duo (with Ülkem Özsezen) with “The Newbury Duo”. Zulfugar, who settled in Washington some time after his graduation, switched to tenor and soprano saxophone instruments. He had concerts at the Baku International Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festval and important jazz clubs in Washington. In 2010, he was accepted to New York University’s Steinhardt for Jazz Studies Master’s Program. Blue Note in New York; Jazz At Lincoln Center; Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola; He has performed at venues such as NYU Concert Hall. Baghirov is an adjunct professor of music at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and teaches at Montgomery College in Silver Spring.
