Born in 1985 and raised in Izmir, Ömercan Şakar developed a deep love for music from an early age. His musical journey began with a classical guitar gifted by his mother; later, his father’s passion for jazz and blues led him to pursue drums. After working with various musicians and attending workshops in Turkey and Europe, he earned a scholarship through The Virtual Drummer School and received the opportunity to train with the New York-based The Drummers Collective. There, he underwent intensive training with artists such as Peter Retzlaff, Ian Froman, Bob Quaranta, Joe Fitzgerald, Pat Petrillo, and one of his most admired drummers, Dan Weiss. He continues to reflect his commitment to the unifying power of sound through various projects, including Ömercan Şakar & Friends, Psychaudio, Sazakan, Re-Mind, and Electro Dervishes. Şakar is performing with “Project OM 4.0” as part of the Jazz Clubs Night concerts of the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival.
